Message on 167th The Mackay School Anniversary 2024

SPIRIT OF MACKAY FOREVER 

A Message to Teachers, Staff, Support Personnel, Students,  Parents, Members of the Board of Governors & Old Mackayans  on our 167^th Anniversary

Today, we celebrate not only the anniversary of The Mackay School, but we honor  the rich legacy that has shaped generations of students and profoundly influenced  Chile’s educational landscape.  

Therefore, today is more than just an anniversary. it is a celebration of a legacy that  has endured for 167 years —a legacy woven with triumphs, challenges, and an  unbreakable bond of unity.  

But this legacy is not merely history —it is something living, something that pulses  within each of us here. Today. we are celebrating “The Spirit of Mackay” —a spirit  that has molded and transformed every life that has graced these grounds.  

Founded with the vision of integrating the best of British education, The Mackay  School stands as a beacon of excellence, fostering a sense of duty, loyalty, and  honor. These values have not only shaped our students but have played a vital role  in the development of educational standards across Chile.  

From the beginning, British ideals of leadership, resilience, sportsmanship and  camaraderie have been woven into the fabric of our institution, creating a legacy  that has helped mold not just students, but future leaders, innovators, and citizens  of the world.

To our teachers —you are the custodians of this institution’s legacy.  

Your dedication -much like those who came before you- upholds the standards of  excellence that Mackay is known for. You are the embodiment of the very British  ideals this school was built upon —fostering critical thinking, resilience, and the  pursuit of excellence.  

Through your example, our students not only gain knowledge but also develop the  character necessary to succeed in life.  

Thank you for the profound impact you have on every student who walks  through these doors. Your influence goes far beyond the classroom,  leaving a lasting imprint on their hearts and minds.  

Remember: You don’t just teach subjects—you shape lives, inspire dreams and  nurture the character of our students. 

To our support personnel —inspectors, administrators, and staff —your  contribution is immeasurable.  

Behind every successful student, behind every triumph on the field or in the  classroom, there is a network of unsung heroes who make it all possible. You are  the quiet strength that holds this institution together, ensuring that the spirit of  excellence thrives in every corner of Mackay. From the early mornings to the late  nights, your dedication is felt, and today, we honor you for your invaluable role  in keeping *The Spirit of Mackay* alive and running. 

To our students —you are the living sample of “The Spirit of Mackay”.  You carry forward not only the traditions of this school but the ideals of a legacy  that spans continents and generations. You are part of something far greater than  yourselves. The friendships you forge here, the challenges you face, and the victories  you achieve will stay with you for a lifetime. 

You are the present and future of Mackay, and in you, the legacy of British influence  and excellence continues to shine.

Our motto, *Vincit qui se vincit*—He conquers who conquers himself—reminds us  of the deepest lesson this school teaches. It is not just about academic or sports  victories. it is about mastering oneself. these are the qualities that define true greatness.
