Vincit qui se Vincit: Rising with Meaning and Living with Purpose
Dear Mackay School Community,
During this Holy Week, we pause to contemplate one of the most profound and transformative mysteries in human history: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is not merely a religious milestone, but an existential invitation to live differently—with purpose, with meaning, and with love.
The resurrection of Christ is neither an empty symbol nor a distant hope. It is a tangible victory of love over ego, of sacrifice over indifference, of service over pride. Christ shows us that true power lies not in domination, but in self-giving; not in self-exaltation, but in surrendering oneself for the good of others.
This truth lies at the very heart of our school’s guiding principle: “Vincit qui se Vincit” — he conquers who conquers himself. In an age that exalts immediacy, effortless success, and superficial brilliance, this principle challenges us deeply: authentic greatness is not found in surpassing others, but in mastering oneself; in ordering our desires, persevering through effort, cultivating character, and choosing, again and again, the path of what is right.
To rise with meaning is to awaken each day with the decision to live with purpose. It is to ask not only what we hope to achieve, but for whom and to what end. It is to understand that effort, when born of love and directed toward service, transforms not only the individual, but also the world around them.
As a learning community, let us embrace this message with hope. Let us nurture students, families, and educators who seek inner mastery, who do not shy away from sacrifice when it serves others, and who understand that each small act of generosity, discipline, and compassion is a concrete way of rising with Christ.
May this Easter be a time of deep renewal. May the message of the cross not speak to us of defeat, but of courageous love. And may the light of the resurrection inspire us to live with purpose each day, remembering always that he conquers who conquers himself.
With hope and gratitude,
