13 OctGeneración 2020 celebró aniversario con emotiva ceremonia
Con la participación de autoridades del Colegio, padres y los alumnos de la Generación 2020, se conmemoró el jueves 8 de octubre el aniversario número 163 de nuestro Colegio.
La ceremonia, conducida por la profesora jefe del IV Medio A, Miss Verónica Cordero, se realizó vía on line y se concentró en los estudiantes que comienzan a despedirse de su etapa escolar.
La actividad se inició con la siguiente alocución: “In 1857, Alexander Balfour and Stephen Williamson opened the Valparaiso Artizan School for children of Britons and Americans, many of them did not have much money. The idea was that they could get a similar English education that they would have received in their home countries even if they could not afford the fees. Balfour and Williamson were philanthropists. If there was room in the class, they would take students who were not English speakers. Balfour chose Peter Mackay, a Scottish mathematician, to come to Chile to become the first headmaster of the Valparaiso Artizan School in 1857. Five years later, the attendance in the school was increasing, so Mackay needed an assistant. George Sutherland, also a Scott, who was only 20 years old at the time and studying in the university came to assist Mackay”.
En sus 163 años de vida, The Mackay School ha podido mantenerse con resiliencia, capacidad de adaptación y entereza, a pesar de guerras, revueltas sociales, desastres naturales e incluso ahora, con una pandemia. Esta institución, que ha visto pasar a muchas generaciones, está colmada de recuerdos y tradiciones que nos hablan de la importancia de honrar a nuestros alumnos que culminan un viaje, una etapa con nosotros.
El rector de The Mackay School, Mr. Gregor Polson, se dirigió a los presentes e hizo referencia al vínculo entre nuestro Colegio y el legado escocés. Habló de la importancia de mantenernos unidos como comunidad, “como el clan Mackay que somos”, expresó.
Durante la actividad y honrando una de nuestras más antiguas tradiciones, se distinguió a nuestros alumnos destacados de la generación.
Al comenzar su último año de estudios en el Colegio, The Mackay School entrega una insignia blanca a quienes ingresan a IV Medio y que los distingue como tales. En esta ocasión, se entregaron los distintivos pendientes a los siguientes alumnos:
Maximiliano Sáenz, Joaquín Cabrera, Antonio Guglielmetti, Vicente Rámila, Luciano Gandolini, Martín Dunner, Thomas Mac Pherson, Benjamín Rioja, Stefano Lauriani, Gerardo Rosselot, Franco Rossi, Joaquín Castro, Juan Cristóbal Bascuñán, Pablo de Israel, Tomás Gallardo, Sebastián Rivero, Javier Rodríguez , Vicente Aspee y Bastián Álvarez.
“To continue, we honoured those who last year, decided to apply to have the chance to become Prefects: a position of honour and recognition of the trajectory within our institution. Prefects must be an example for the rest of the students, actively collaborating in the different areas of school work, assuming tasks of guidance, model and accompaniment to all students of the school and especially to the students of the courses to which they have been assigned to. This day with great pleasure and after demonstrating great leadership skills and commitment, especially in the scenario we found ourselves in, the following students were given the Prefect position and received their badges”:

Durante su paso como estudiantes entre las antes áreas de Infant, Junior, Middle y Senior, los alumnos de IV Medio han tenido la oportunidad de ser acompañados por distintos miembros de nuestra comunidad, auxiliares, administrativos, profesores y también, amigos, quienes han dejado algún recuerdo en ellos y ellos, una huella en nosotros.
El Profesor Jefe de IV Medio B, Mr. Alberto Bustamante, se dirigió a la generación, y emotivamente se refirió a todos los años en los que él pudo compartir con estos estudiantes y los recuerdos que eso ha dejado en él y en nuestra comunidad. Los felicitó también por la entereza con la cual han sido capaces de sobrellevar este año tan particular.
“Mackay, Robertson, Somerscales and Sutherland are the names of the four school houses. Those that in a regular year will compete against each other in different activities related to academics and sports to win the Prain Cup at the end of the year. During this year, school values have been tested to the core; especially when it comes to companionship. And with that in mind, it is important to mention that the following students agreed in a very fair manner on how to be elected house leaders, they decided not to be voted but to accept each other as partners for the benefit of the school house rather than their own. The following students received their Captain and Deputy House Captain Badges”:

Durante este año, hemos aprendido que para ser ciudadanos en este mundo globalizado debemos ser miembros activos de una comunidad, tener ideas claras y ser fuertes en nuestras convicciones. Hemos aprendido también a ser flexibles y a poner en juego nuestra mentalidad abierta y ser capaces de aprovechar nuevas oportunidades.
El profesor jefe de IV Medio C, Mr. Leonardo Antivilo, dirigió algunas palabras acerca del futuro de los estudiantes a partir de su salida del Colegio. Hizo mención al escenario que estamos viviendo y a las decisiones futuras que los alumnos deben asumir con valentía.
“We can all agree that what we have been living throughout this year has been unusual, to say the least, but that we have all been able to embrace it and look at it rather positively than negatively. Students have been able to carry out activities that benefit the integration of all the students in the generation and collaborate with the objectives of the teachers and those of the school. At the end of III Medio, a group of 12 students was chosen to be the leaders of the school, who during their stay at our school have demonstrated positive and active participation in school activities, highlighted by their conditions of courtesy and respectful treatment to teachers and all members of the community. Even though during this year, we could only attest this behaviour over the course of two weeks while we were at school, we have still seen it in this online environment. Among this group, we have the students’ leaders: the HeadBoy and Deputy Head Boys, who received their badges last year during our Prize Giving Ceremony, so this day the following nine students received their badges”:

Para finalizar, los padres de la Generación 2020 entregaron un pequeño presente en nombre del Colegio a sus hijos para seguir formando parte de su día a día. Luego se entonó el himno del Colegio.
